I had a hell of a problem unfolding this dress, could not get the checkered pattern uniform so went in to PSP and made my own one, a lot smaller than Hex's and tried that (saved 3 versions -S,M &L) and when I resized the final texture I forgot to change it from percent to pixels so hex crashed on me, did not save the file so had to start all over - LOL Now, if I got this right the next step is grouping (?) I'm not looking forward to what comes from here on in as I have never done grouping or rigging (I'm using Daz Studio, not poser), so please bear with me. Attachments:

the grouping is quite easy just time consuming
you break up ur obj into parts that reflect the colours you put on the doll. the parts MUST be named exactly the same as the doll eg chest lShldr rCollar etc dunno about daz figure tools but poser will throw a wobbler if you spelling - capitalisation is wrong
my way (no I wont sing lol ) duplicate the object then hide it (thats the back up ) hightlight all the polys over one area, I usualy start at the hip but thats up to u cut then paste rename to whatever part it should be I work on a 50% rule when selecting if more of my mesh is in the area I'm selecting then its in ;-) try to look head on at the mesh while your selecting it! or u will pick wrong ones if your peeping round a corner,
will look like you got lots of objects in hex but just export them as .obj poser will take it as one obj with multiple groups
hope all that makes sense ~~ yell out if it dont

Thanks for the advice Heddheld, hopefully my single brain cell will work it out, the poor thing has been working overtime lately

Failed I managed to group everything, followed RoxanneJ's FT tutorial but when I get to the end DS throws a wobbly and crashes. Tried about 1/2 dozen times with the same result Will try again at a later date, but at the moment DS has put me right off.

Finally got it to work. After blaming myself for being a mere bloke I took off FST and downloaded the latest version (which ended up being the one I already had installed - I did warn you about my single brain cell), then instead of using the Poser options suggested in the tutorial I used the hex ones. Then I deleted V4 from the FST window, and finally I used the Create Figure option rather than the Paste one. Going to try to export it now, before I mess things up I will have to do it all again with the texture and set it to work with Poser but for now I'm chuffed - Happy Chappy Thanks for your help - John Attachments:

I agree - strap in the collar group would be nicer - it won't mangle the design.

I will think about the strap and adding a few extra bones to the dress when I get it working, at the moment I'm having problems with it.

Oh, the main problem is I have not got enough time to figure things out. In DS, I can get things to work when I use the Hex scale, Poser does not work. But when I try the Fit To V4 the whole things messes up. I'm wondering if I should go back into Hex and see what would happen if I drop the dress to floor level and reset the pivot point, then reposition the dress in DS and export it as an OBJ and try the process again.

are you using the bridge thing between hex an daz?? not used daz much at all for a long time an never used the bridge lol but would expect it to export the dress "fitted" as it was in hex
not sure what you would gain moving the pivot point but hey if it works for u ;-) lol
be happy to look over the dress for you (either hex or obj) if you want me to but have to be quick I'm in hospital next week

Thank you for your offer Heddheld, I will take you up on it but it will keep till you are out of hospital. I'm not using the bridge tool, it does not work very well. After trying it again, what I'm finding now (I'm using RoxanneJ's tutorial) is if I use the Poser scale, it opens the CR2 file into DS okay, but its very small, about the size of V4's finger nail. Obviously, DS crashes almost every time I go through the process. So trying poser and Hex scales can get a tad frustrating at times. Moving the pivot point. I've made a few swords in the past with Hex, and it helps when it comes to positioning it in the hand if the pivot point is in the handle. Hope your hospital appointment goes well. I haven't got to go again till March. I hate that bloody tread mill, walk for hours and not get anywhere
