No, if it's a YouTube video, we're using their bandwidth.
But, if you don't want the videos on YouTube, we need a place to host them (to store them). I can use my site for small ones, but each time you load a (for example) 2MG video and play it, it adds 2MG to the allotted traffic on my website. All hosted websites get a monthly allottment of traffic (bandwidth) that can't be exceeded. You "purchase" a certain amount when you purchase your hosting service. Of course, that's "bandwidth" in simplistic terms, but it should explain it.

Hello. I recently re-discovered I'd downloaded Hexagon somewhere along the line, and somehow overlooked installing it. I know, shame on me... but at least I've found it now. I'm beginning with the enclosed tutorials, but I can already see that I'll be wanting more than just those tutorials to really learn how to make the best use of Hexagon. Saw a signature link & thought I'd come see what was here. PS - I'll probably be doing a lot more reading than posting, at least for a while, so please don't be offended by my "silence" ok? Besides, I still need to learn enough to ask intelligent questions!

Definitely stay and soak up as much as you. Hexagon is an excellent modeler and so I think you'll find that you made the best decision "dusting it off" and giving it another try.

Thanks for the warm welcome! Methinks "Murphy's Law" loves me too well... suddenly I'm so busy with other stuff that I've not been able to open Hexagon for about a week. *eyes cross* Hoping I can finish other business so I can play ... erm, that is, learn... more this week! My one semi-successful item so far can be found on my ShareCG page. I haven't attempted clothing... yet! I may try tinkering with the starter stuff by Axe Swipe before attempting anything entirely from ground zero.

As for the starters, I always use them - why re-invent the wheel when the basics are done for you?

Hmm, texturing tips? *ponders* Well... I collect all the seamless tiles I can get a hold of that allow personal or commercial textures to be made from them. Even if I don't think I'm likely to use them, because the future tends to be full of surprises. Also things like edge trims, embroidery, or laces. It's not unusual for me to layer in two or more different textures in a way that makes them look like a single fabric, then recolor that, to create a unique look. This also helps prevent extraction of the original tiles (sometimes the terms of use say that derivative works are fine as long as the original is not extractable). (I think someone suggested it to me, but I can't recall who that was. *blushes*) If doing the visual illusion of multiple layers, like with the "Leaves for Shadow Dancer" top, I use the "3D effects" option for a "drop shadow" to help the top layer stand out. (Can't recall who taught me that, either. *blushes again*) Dotted lines make good stitching. Just draw one where you want a seam... (Learned from Poserfan) When in doubt, mirror. (Learned from dolfijntjes) Those little things can make a lot of difference. Hope that helps.

When I'm using the Pattern Stamp with a seamless tile, I never know how large or small to make the pattern itself. Is there a good measure for making the pattern match the object? For instance.......I have a purchased knitted pattern. If I want to put that pattern on a top I made for V4, do I just use the original, very large, pattern and change the size of the stamp tool, or do I re-size the pattern to something smaller before I define pattern? Excuse the basic questions........this texturing stuff is really confusing for us noobs.

Well, with texture scale, I tend to do trial and error. Each mesh is different, as is each texture. I'll open a scene with the character and the clothing item in it, and then flood-fill the template in my layered 2D editor, and then export that to a .jpg, and then swap to DAZ and "try it on" to see how it looks. If it looks the wrong size, then I'm back to PSP (I don't own photoshop), and undo the flood fill, and try a different scale, re-flood, re-export, re-save the newly exported .jpg to the same file name, wait for DAZ to update, and then rinse and repeat as needed until it looks right. That's before I add in any details. Probably not much help, but that's what I do. After a while, you get to where you kind of "feel" if a texture scale is close or "off." Most textures don't go in at 100%, but either larger or smaller. I'm not sure if that's much help, but that's what I do with each project. Hope it helps.

Ah ha! I've been doing trial and error too, but I kept thinking, there's got to be an easier way! Guess not, huh? LOL! I was doing this Acorn top and I tried several sizes before I got it right. Believe it or not, this is a commercial texture pack crocodile skin that I re-colored and highlighted to get the acorn top. Attachments:

Hey, if it works... isn't that the point? There may be an easier way. But if there is, I've not yet learned it.
