I can model a little bit, and would like to make some clothes properly. I've watched Digital Dreams tutorials on making a t-shirt (and a few others) but I noticed that she used a coloured V4.
Thinking it was a modified V4 obj, I looked in the DS People folder and found a blMilWom_v4b.obj which comes into Hex very small (about the size of my normal V4's toenail) and coloured grey.
Can someone please let me know the secret of how you load in the figure like the one Digital Dreams uses or even better let me have the OBJ file.
John

think giving you the obj is a no no lol (get us both in trouble)
best way load doll in poser take off IK then zero it (do NOT move it ) export as obj tick box for use part names (forgot right wording ) import into hex on the import thing you need to scale it up (a lot poser stuff is tiny) most peeps use 500 or 1000 (dont forget to scale down again on export in at 1000 is out at .001)
now you have the obj in hex DO NOT MOVE IT open mats tab ~ Delete all the mats goto domain tab ~ delete all the domains now on the scene tab select the hip give it a mat ( I like light an dark but can go rainbow if you want) select abdomen give it a colour then chest give it colour 1 continue till you done all the parts
SAVE AS A HEX file!!!!!!! ele you'll be doin it all again
shout if I aint explained owt to well

Thanks Heddheld, I managed to get the OBJ into Hex via Daz Studio. I kept the Mat files as I thought I'd need them when it comes to the rigging side of things. Rigging is something I need to learn, I've been trying to make time for that side of things for ages but something always comes up.
Thanks again - John

When I was making clothes for Poser I found out the best way was to use the OBJ directly from the geometries because when you load the Character, take of the IK, Zero the Pose, and then export as an OBJ, PJ(Paul on Rendo) explained there was a glitch with the clothes lining up correctly. Anyways the numbers that worked well for me was Import =500. Export = .002. They fit like a glove when you brought it into Poser. As far as the coloring, you have to do that manually yourself. I personally don't as I don't group or rig by hand so don't need to see exactly what body parts touch what. Also, it's harder to model over all those colors and have a colored shirt(even with transparency). Maybe it's just me. But you can find out how to do that here: T59 Hexagon Clothing workshop

Thank you SSAfam1, I've got V4 coloured and saved as a HXN file. I just hope the mat names are right. Just to be on the safe side I've done a screen grab of the V4 obj (now saved as a HXN file in 2 different places so I don't loose it) can you please check the mat files and see if they are the correct names. Thanks again for your help - John Attachments:

Click on the side arrows next to all those mats (ie. 2_hip) and delete them. Delete all of them. That takes up unecessary resources and is strenuous on your comp. When you've deleted all of them, your V4 should be white and that area should be blank(but yours won't be because you added the colors. So only those should be there. Not all that other stuff). It's not important HOW you name them in the least. As it's not something that is necessary. Just for your convenience in knowing what body part you're modeling around.
Also, unless you're modeling a full body suit. Start with your base mannequin. Then from there delete unnecessary body parts that you're not currently working on by dragging a selection over it to highlight it, then press on the delete button. For instance, if you're doing pants, you only need the abdomen, hip, thighs, shins, foot. Name that different from your base manni. Name it "V4 bottom half" or something like that. This also frees up resources.

Thank SSAfam1, taken on board what you've said. Its just that I thought you needed V4 split into different parts so the clothing can be rigged, but I suppose that all comes later (running before I can walk again). I got a bit carried away, this did start of as a T-shirt like the one Digital Dreams made but I turned it into a mini dress. Attachments:

Like you made it during the time you were asking questions? If so, you're QUICK. Looking good.

looking good mate about the colour coding ~ if your using like autogroup \ obj2cr2 then you dont need all the colours (ps I did tell you to delete all mats an domains lol) if your using the daz setup tools I cant help at all lol got fed up with all the updates for daz an not had it on my comp since about ver 2 lol I do all grouping in hex and rigging in P6 no probs with the click click tools (as a yorkie have got deep pockets an short arms but thats a dif story lol ) and guess its a bit harder to "do it all" by hand but its a lot of fun an as this is a hobby it has to be fun for me

Thanks guys, glad you like it. Heddheld, I have not got Poser, I use DS but have not really tried the rigging tool.
If you don't mind, I may want to ask you a few questions when I get to the grouping stage.
I'm off now to see what else I can do to the dress

Unfortunately, putting them on is a little difficult of a task. My daughter wiggles alot. And at night, complains if I don't put it fast enough before she goes to sleep!

Thank you Heddheld, hopefully I will not bother you too much. I've changed the dress a wee bit and added a simple belt. I was planning to UVmap it next. Is that the next stage, or is there something else I need to do instead ? Attachments:

It's always up to the person but for complex objects, with multiple layers/things like hair, they recommend you UV map as early as possible before smoothing many times.

John everyone has there own methods from here on in is no right/wrong way JUST your way read all the tuts you can find then plan your way lol now MY way at this point I would take it into poser and rig it (just roughly, dont over worry about pokeies or joints) make sure it works well ! the reason is if I need to add/ remove polys the uv map will mess up when happy go on an do the uv and then the final grouping(you may change the grouping sometimes to fix errors shown up in poser (knees an elbows may need a bit more tesselation lol) IT is the "long way" round but often will save a bit of hair lol . you done uv before ?? if not think about where the seams would be on a real dress get the map as flat as you can!! even a good model can be messed up by bad mapping load the texture checker in hex (mat tab ~ colour do the flippything an the checker is near the bottom of the list makes it easier to line up the parts lol ask as often as you like m8 I usualy pop in here a couple of times a day or some one else will show you there way lol
