This is something I would LOVE to do. As there is an urgent need to do so in order to enter a wider range of textures for V4. I will begin looking for any tips I can on this, and then, well - once I have enough, I would like to start a project - I'd like to create a texture and maybe even post each step as I go, until the project is finished. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Take it you mean skin textures?? Toony or Real? realistic skin is prob the hardest thing in the 3d world ;-) ;D is a few merchant packs of skin (dunno how good they are ) or you could get hold of as many pics as u can of skin needs to have flat even lighting to be usefull and huge!! bigger the better, tileing looks really bad on skin only tuts I ever seen was for P4 an u know how bad them skins could be lol, but I haven't looked for a long time cos I found it too hard for me best tip I can think of is use Lots of layers think ur a dazzer ?? the layered image editor for daz "may" help to speed things up (if you have it) good luck an dont forget to keep us "in the loop" be interested to see how you do

Choose Diffuse and you see a small square with a little arrow. Click on it and you see where the texture map is on your computer. You can copy that file, work it over to something different, store it under a different name in the same map. Now you can change the texture of V4 by choosing your new file in the diffuse map. This will only effect the loaded character if you save it. When you load up V4 she has the old texture. I hope you can use the procedure for your purpose.
