Hello, there. Here's another aspiring 3D clothing creator (especially for DAZ Studio). Nice to meet you! :3 I have been looking all over the place for information on where to get started, and the problem is that I am not a Hexagon user, like most seem to be. I work with free, usually free and/or open-source tools: hence, GIMP, Inkscape, and then, Blender. I would like to model my clothes in Blender, but all I see is Hexagon tutorials, and I am not sure of how similar the process is with Blender. On the other hand, though, I am sure it can be done in Blender just as well; I just have to find the way. So, where to start? I really need some guidance. I am new to 3D modeling as well, although at least I know some of the basic concepts. Well, only enough to mold a primitive into something else, really... As for skeletons, rigging, UVmapping and all that, I think I don't know enough. I haven't gotten that far yet. Care to help me out? Thank you in advance, and I hope to be creating new clothes for the community soon! Note: I am a Mac OS X user, if that information helps.

welcome to the group yes blender is great for making clothes and has a very good uv mapper most of the tuts for hex will work in blender but tools are a bit different(some are just named dif some work dif lol but practise and you'll learn) blenders uv mapping is very similar to hex's still have seams and unwrap so shouldnt be too hard to follow a hex tut , once you have learnt a bit of blender lol now rigging has to be done in poser or the daz FST tool (blender can do rigging but its not really compatible but someone is working on a addon for blender to change that, so fingers crossed) there is nothing hex can do that blender wont (not true the other way round lol ) so you try any tut and if your stuck yell (link to the tut an what your stuck on please(I have used hex since v1 but am turning into a blender head over the last 6 months )

Thanks, Heddheld! I was following a tutorial yesterday, until I reache the point where I had to rig the model. Problem is, I couldn't make the figure deform as expected from the tutorial. Something went wrong. My model's arms won't bend like they should. So, I'm wondering if my rigging will be just as bad in DAZ Studio or Poser (probably DS in my case, because I don't have Poser). That worries me. Either way, I'll keep practicing.
So far, I am LOVING Blender. It can be really easy when you get familiar with the interface, truly. I still haven't tried some things, like UVmapping, curves and the like, but that's coming next. I'll see what tutorials I can find about UVmapping in Blender.
