OK, I recorded a hip repair in Auto Group Editor. I thought I had the recorder off, so ignore everything after the Save As.... :-( I don't know how to edit the videos yet. It's not finished processing yet, but should be up soon here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hi4hMlJ3tFo

From what I could make out, you selected faces...then what operation did you use from the menu? Does AGE leave anything else out? Cool jumper...can I see a render of it?

OK, I recorded a hip repair in Auto Group Editor. I thought I had the recorder off, so ignore everything after the Save As.... :-( I don't know how to edit the videos yet. It's not finished processing yet, but should be up soon here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hi4hMlJ3tFoAGE always leaves the hip out or just some parts of the hip? From what I could make out, you selected faces...then what operation did you use from the menu? Does AGE leave anything else out? Cool jumper...can I see a render of it? AGE leaves out the back of the hip and the entire crotch area. The crotch area is usually only 2 polygons wide, which is probably why it misses it, plus we make sure not to get the garment too close to the body to avoid pokethrough. Now, I can't find any excuses for why it leaves out the upper rear hip so often <g>..... Correct, it is a matter of selecting the correct faces - usually one from the left thigh and one from the right thigh. Not always, though - sometimes it screws it up royally, which is why you want to check with Transparent first. I also find that the shin areas sometimes need work, but not as much as the hip. And, with shoes, the toes ALWAYS need work. When you have all the faces selected, from the group menu, select the item (the hip) you want to assign the faces to. Then, right click>Assign to Selected Item During the filming, I chose one face that belonged in the rThigh by accident. At the end, I went back and fixed that - screwing up first and assigning it to the lThigh and had to fix it again. Now, before I changed hard drives, AGE automatically assigned the faces as I selected them to the group I had highlighted, so you may see that happen. I have no idea why it changed when I re-installed it on the new hard drive. So, the steps should be, Group your object. Select the hip, then begin selecting faces that should be IN the hip. Depending on your version, you may have to finish off by Right Click>Assign to Selected Group. I haven't rendered the overalls yet - have some serious reversed polygons going on...........will do a quick render for you.

When did you make this? I'm gonna make a pair for the kids4. Can I see a closeup for the straps?
See vendors need to make practical clothes like these. There are a lot of skirts and dresses out there for the girls. They act like the only thing boys need are a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. There are so many more clothing items they can make.

It's a cheat........I took a freebie from PhilC (Rosie the Riveter for Sydney) into Hexagon and re-did it for V4 for my personal use (can't distribute). Tho, I did re-do the legs completely.

OH ok. I'm on Phil C's site now. Really nice. I HAVE to make my own from scratch to give me the practice.

Ahh ok. That was a bad promo pic. It showed more of the pose than the outfit. And since there are no words stating what's included, and you can't click on it to enlarge, or get a description(automatically downloads when you do) I passed right over it before. I just downloaded it and am looking at it in Hexagon. Hey...we got another newbie! ;D

Check this out: Jeans W.I.P.This guy made some simple jeans for Little One. I do not know which modeler he uses but I like the texturing. It's not just a jeans pattern over the clothes. He has the seams too which make it look so much more realistic. These are the things we need to know. How to apply all the resources over your object. I really want to ask a professional texture for like a mini tutorial but don't want to "infringe" upon them. Make them feel as if I'm asking for secrets. Would this type of thing be classified as a "secret" though? Just simple jeans texturing? Attachments:

I'm honestly afraid to ask. lol One time I asked someone for texturing tips (she was a vendor) and let's just say by the response, it was clear she wasn't trying to tell me much of anything. And she promptly pointed me in the direction of a well textured dress that I should "study" to try and find out how it was done. That's when I learned not to ask because you'll be pointed to things you should "study" on your "own".

I asked her for help at JamminWolfe's suggestion when I started modeling. She was very friendly and helpful, though I wasn't asking about her "field" of texturing. I was asking for help about morphs. But, texturing jeans is the same as texturing a dress. The important thing is understanding where to put/manage the textures. But the bottom line is simple - good texturing starts with a good UV map. Without good UV, it's a lost cause.

We've compiled so much and this site already has a wealth of info if you ask me. And there's more to come, whether tutorials from others, or our very own. This site will be an excellent resource...if I may say so myself. What I like about what we did was we took the initiative. Many complain and most go off and learn to do it themselves, but because of us, the new modelers will have all this handy...in ONE spot!

We still need a "This is how you get started making clothes" article though. One that says, you need this, and this, and this. I bought so much software that I did NOT need, and wasted a lot of time trying to figure out how to use said software. Heck, I bought the whole Clothing Designer Suite from PhilC and I don't even OWN Poser. It's a Poser plugin! Do'h! I bought Hexagon and the Pegasus Modeler. Duplicates. I bought Quick Conform and Figure Setup Tools. Duplicates. I'd like to help folks avoid those issues. And, we need good videos on Figure Setup Tools, Joint Editor and CR2 hacking. Still a lot that needs to be done.

I'm trying to get up a list but, I myself, am aware of all of what other proggys are capable of or if they have more than one function. I tried to get to it in THIS thread, but received less replies than I anticipated, as I know there are more utilities out there. Also, I'm still wondering how to do this Hexagon vs other modelers thing. As this is (primarily) a Hexagon forum(we're not trying to be exclusive. Just the little bit we do know, we only know about Hex.) but with the wealth of info, it can be transferred to other programs. So should I go ahead and list ALL the modelers out there as well as all the utilities that can be used in conjunction? And lets take another application for instance, some of them do have grouping/UVmapping capabilities (I'm thinking) so they wouldn't need the "outside" tools, but since I am not familiar with the other modelers, I can't say for sure. I don't want to speak on what I'm not sure of (all I know is that Hex is a modeler and AGE groups and Tool Collections does the CR2. I know because *I* use these). That's what's going on in my head and trying to figure out what to do in the end. As if someone is using another modeler, I sure don't want them feeling like, "Uh...this is a Hexagon forum...can't learn here."

I think it's just a matter of there are lots of modelers out there (i.e., Blender, Wings3D, Maya, Lightwave, etc.) but WE use Hexagon and invite those who use others to write up some tutorials as well. Bob1965 uses Blender, but that has never stopped him from answering any of my questions and helping me accomplish a task while I was using Hexagon.

Correction about the thread I linked to. I didn't mean to say I received less replies. I actually meant I anticipated a complete list of programs and utilities. The same ones came up. So I'll have to do a bit of research. Heck, I can always edit and update.
