I tend to use a variation on this theme. I have PSP, not photoshop, so apologies if any terms don't match. Sometimes I use gradients, if a set of perfectly straight lines will achieve the desired effect. However, most times I use the "spraypaint" brush with gaussian blur, so that I can have a bit more control over where the shadows and highlights are going. I usually start by adding a layer for the basic Lights Then I add a layer for the basic Darks (this goes between the Lights layer and the texture) Then I start blending and blurring... For lights, the layer blend mode is usually dodge or overlay... for darks, usually multiply or burn -- and it is extremely rare for either to be anywhere near 100%. After I have those looking about right, I adjust my spraypaint brush size, and add two more layers - shadows for deep darks, and highlights for brighter lights. I usually go over the darks twice, but the lights only once. Then I blur and blend the new layers. Finally, I fine-tune with the smudge tool if/where needed, and eventually I get clothing folds that I'm happy with for that project. It cam be as dramatic or subtle as desired. Attachments:

I'm soooooooooo glad to have found someone who uses PSP instead of having to try and follow along to a Photoshop tutorial! I always hit a bump in the road.
This is some nice info.

Pleased to be of service. *curtseys* If you follow the link at the top to Cho's tutorial, I posted the same with a few more pictures at the end of that thread. I couldn't figure how to get the other pictures in here, else I would have. But at least there's a place they can be seen, for anybody who's so inclined.

I'll be sure to go over that thread again now. ;D I asked through proboard support if there was a way to upload multiple attachments like at Daz and they said NO. Links and images within a post will work though.

*facepalm* I just realized... I could have made it as multiple posts. Just start a new one each time I add a picture. *sighs* Oh well, I'll know if there's a next time. You don't even have to do that if you don't want to. If you use photobucket or imageshack, you can just copy each image code within one post. Like this: You'd just have have to resize each diagram so that it doesn't stretch the page. 500x400 usually shows nicely. With the attachments, they're allowed to be super big.
