Hi, my name is Frits. I'm a pensioner and an experienced hobby-photographer. Now I have set myself this goal to visualize a book about the Pre-history. As I have DAZ Studio 4 Adv, Bryce 7 and Hexagon for several years. I like to use that tools to realize my goal in combination with my photographs. Unfortunately I did not have much experience with the above programs, so I decided to raise my skills first, by watching many tutorials and reading the manuals and articles of other users. Here I am ready to read what you can tell me about MAKING CLOTHES. English is not the language I speak daily, so don't punish me for the grammatical mistakes you find in my messages. I'm Dutch, you know. ;D Frits

hi an welcome to the group yeah MD is good but its not cheap clothing can be make in hexagon (or any modeler) try with hex before spending lots of dosh you say you have not used any of the proggys much, so how much do you know?? there is two types of clothing in poser\ds , there called dynamic or conforming , not going to get into the differences sometimes one is better sometimes the other is lol. Now it starts to get silly, poser can make an use comforming and dynamic, DS can make conforming WITH a plugin (FST it may be in DS4 but I rarely use DS so not sure) DS can make dynamic WITH a plugin (used to be a lot of dosh but not looked at price for a long time) and just to really spoil your day poser dynamics wont work in DS and DS dynamics need some work to make them work in poser. Is 100's of tuts on all aspects of the proggys so have a go and if you get stuck yell out and we'll try to help. have fun

Thanks for your responces. As I wrote above, I don't have much experience with the programs. What I like to have is a model V4 with clothes that fit not only in the T-position, but also when I position V4 in a different position. I'm not interested in animation, just stills are fine for me.
What I do understand so far, is that if clothing should move along with the model, you have to connect the bones with the corresponding parts of the cloting. I once tried to make a simple dress in Hexagon, the object would go through the bridge back to Studio 4, unfortunately it doen't keep its position and I had to fix that again in Studio. Not a great succes. It has something to do with the zero point of te model and the zero of the dress.
As I have to change the position of my model many times in Studio 4, in order to get a good looking pose in combination with the rest of the picture, it is not possible to go over and over back to an other program to reposition the clothes on my V4 model.
So what is the best way to achief my goal? I prefer to work in Studio because I have some skill in creating my models out of V4 and Genesis and I have spend lots of time to figure it out. But if there is an easier way to do it I like to try that.
Hope to hear again from you.

Heddheld, what stand FST for? I try to follow Roxanne's story in Studio 4, but I can't find "Setup Tools View>Tabs>Skeleton Setup." Do I have to use Studio 3?

FST = figure setup tools in ds 4 it should be under window\tabs\figure setup rest of the tut should be ok but sometimes names change

Sorry, but there is no figure setup in window\tabs\ The only thing I can achieve is to go to the parameters-tab en choose Display. Then set "show bones" on. But maybe that's not what Roxanne wants. There is definite no Skeleton setup window as mentioned in line 4.
This will not be the right way to do this tutorial.

Here is what I found out the last few hours. In my version Studio 4 Adv the plugin the plug-in "Figure set-up" is not registrated and therefore not activated. Found in the Help-About installed plugins In my account there no available number to find and I payed for the full Advanced version. Does anyone of you know in what procedure this plug-ins can be registrated?

Also, if you bought advanced DS4 within the last 30 days you can get a full refund. I use Poser on my lappy and haven't given DS4 Pro a whirl yet, but will be tonight once I set it up on my desktop with more HDD room...but what I do to model my clothing now is this: Load character in Poser >turn off IK > Zero Figure > Export as .obj {I only export the body parts Im making clothing for} Import into Hex at 200.000 > model clothing > Export as .obj at 0.005 {these numbers may be a bit different depending on what app you intend to export to..I think normal default import/export in hex is 500.000 and 0.002 respectfully iirc} Load character again in Poser, turn off IK and zero > Import clothing obj to Poser at default/uncheck everything. {clothing should load perfectly onto character} Then I select a pose and run the simulation... However since you are using Daz I'll have to do a quick run thru tonight and see if I can figure out what you need to do in order to pose your character and clothing together. What I explained above is for 'dynamic' clothing...which means that you will need to run a simulation each time you change poses... 'Conforming' clothing does not need to do this as it is parented to the characters body {I think this is what you are attempting to do?}...more difficult, and doesn't always perform as well as dynamic clothing as far as cloth realism imo.

So, I installed Studio 4 Pro again and I did find the Figure set-up tab. I managed to copy my Genesis model and there appears a long list of bones in the right window "Relationships". There is no lower left window called IK Chains, just a left window: "Geometry List"
Shall I proceed further? If Yes, what is the next step?

well found out genisis dosnt use the ik in the same way as older figures , yesterday was the first time I ever looked at genisis had a quick search on daz and these links might help you forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=179514forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=182001forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=181707ps I'm NOT expert at FST I used it once and prefered the way poser does it, but will try to help as much as I can think you said you was only bothered about still images? you can pose the doll export it and just build the cloth around the doll, does mean you cant change the pose, but maybe easier then rigging.Of course if you plan on selling (or giving away) any clothing you make it needs to be rigged

the tut in the last of the 3 links works I just tried it (707) using genisis its pretty much a few clicks and its done the tool used is over on the right side of the screen(with the basic theme) it will even follow the morphs(see pic) in my quick test, have to give it to daz on this one it works like a charm this was on a quick simple dress it might get more complicated if you make something fancy hope that helps m8 Attachments:

Thanks to you all foks. The last 3 links were a great help Heddheld. Meanwhile I find so much stuff to read and try, that I'll be busy for a week or two. ;D
If there are more questions, I know where to go. And if I made some progress I'll show you.

*cries* All I want to know is what is the path that blasted Content Management Services thing is supposed to be at. I have asked in a couple threads at Daz, and its been totally ignored..they only want to complain over there because some programs are free now that they paid for months ago...blech. I bought Hex on sale with the book, and the next day it went down in price to like 13 bux..didn't see me running over there demanding I get a refund.... For that matter, I've bought lots of stuff only to see it hit the freebies later.... Anyways, I can't do squat with DS4 Pro until i can get that CMS thing figured out....It just throws errors about the entry point not working or something... Anyone have a CLUE where that thing is supposed to install? Help

what op sys you on hun? with vista an worse in win7 is UAC! , it trys to protect you by restricting access to programfiles so if your ds in in either of the program file folders it might be the problem , try turning UAC off and see if ds works then
NOTE I prefer UAC on but lots run with it off as far as I know, if ds works an u want UAC back on get back to me

Well I made a test of it. Here we are in the real "cave" in the South of France, about 25.000 year after my main character Ayla lived there. So the girl in front is just a preliminary type of what I want to make. But this is just to get the idea.

Thank you Heddheld, if you want to peek on my website, go to www.fcsfoto.nl/?page_id=47 and choose Maya 1 up to 4 . Unfortunately all texts are in Dutch, but it will give you some impression. By the way, where on earth do you live, if I may ask?
