Darn I just got this computer-Dec 18th. And I was googling some clothes things and think I caught a virus going to sites. This darn message keeps popping up from Windows saying stuff is infected AND it wont let me run my spybot.

That SUCKS! Bring it up in safe mode and then run your antivirus software.

That SUCKS! Bring it up in safe mode and then run your antivirus software. I can't run any program. I tried to run PSP to show which messages I was getting and says can't be ran because it's infected. My Norton expired and I never got around to putting AVAST on my computer. I was told since I have a router I can't get viruses so wasn't in a hurry to do so. It's going to cost me sum $70 bucks to get this fixed. I have so many things on my desktop I did not put away onto my external. Being lazy. So many freebies. So many bought things.

WOW this is a VERY NASTY virus. Not only can I not open applications, but I can't even turn up my volume without it the icon disappearing and me having to constantly click on it just to up the bar.
I'm surprised I can get on the Internet.

Oh, you can get on the internet BECAUSE the virus needs your computer ON the internet.
Seriously, you need to deal with this NOW.

And, when you are done, go here and download the free stuff IMMEDIATELY. www.comodo.com/products/free-products.phpIn fact, if you can, go get it now and let it run and clean your computer. Comodo is the best there is. And, your router firewall can be defeated in SECONDS.

I'm so dense when it comes to this and always, always mess things up more. I have so many unsorted away files that I'm sure I'll need to backup before I can attempt anything. That is why I count on that computer guy. He always backs my important things on a zip drive then clean it. Ugh!

OK, let me explain something........the viruses are put out there so the authors can invade your computer. They have a simple, single minded purpose - to look on your computer for any and all private information, especially passwords, banking information and the like. They are set up to look through your computer and "phone home" with the data from your computer transferred to them. That's why your internet connection isn't messed up. There's not much point in invading your computer if they don't have access to the data on it.

Like I thought they put something in your computer and was able to see all the stored passwords on your computer. Ahh man, I'm kinda scared. lol

Go to the Comodo site I linked above. Download the software and let it scan your computer. It will find and disable any viruses, but you will probably have to install in using Safe Mode. The virus will probably prevent you from installing anything to get rid of it unless you do it in Safe Mode or the Command Prompt.

I did see the link above but was thinking, "this virus won't let me run any application". Ok now I see...gotta do it in safe mode. I'll report back. Thanks.

Rox,
I started safe mode and tried to run Cammado and incurred a problem as it cannot be ran in safemode.
So after that, I restarted and tried to run it in regular mode(took a chance) and it said it was infected.
*big sigh*

I just re-read your directions. Safe mode doesn't work...but what's this "command prompt"?

You are going to HAVE to go to that first link I posted in this thread and follow the instructions there to rid your machine of this virus.

I do not have a printer but I wrote down all the directions. I was getting that EXACT message about having to purchase that darn program to remove it. In fact, it was popping up so much...ugh.
Right now I'm in Safemode with Networking and running the Malewarebytes. It really went without a hitch. It warned you that you'd probably have to run roadkill over and over or run a diguised roadkill but I didn't have to do any of that. And in fact, roadkill ran so quickly and did it's job so fast! I kept seeing the notepad saying it was finished and kept running it because I couldn't believe that was all. And so now, I'm up to running the Maleware. Waiting for it to finish.

So after this finishes and I REMOVE infected file I then run CAV_installer (the antivirus) right?

Just to be clear...when I said I couldn't run the Antivirus in safemode earlier, I DIDN'T use Safemode with networking. I used regular safemode(1st option).

So after this finishes and I REMOVE infected file I then run CAV_installer (the antivirus) right? Are you talking about Comodo? That installer? If so, ABSOLUTELY. And, don't EVER surf the web again without a firewall/antivirus. I don't care what anybody tells you.

I wonder if this will clean everything? If so, wow it was EASY even I knew what to do...so why did I always pay someone else? (LOL).

LOL, It will clean everything. My son got a virus on my network one time. I used malwarebytes to get it off and it came off all 5 computers with no problem. Well, with no problem as long as I shut down the network while I was working on it. With the network on, it would re-infect the first computer I cleaned while I was cleaning the 2nd one! THAT was a nightmare.

Clarify, " Shut down network while you were working on it" do you mean disabling the LAN settings in Tool options or simply using the Internet while it's supposed to be cleaning{like I'm doing now }? I haven't restarted at all yet, because it said not to{unless prompted---which I WASN'T} BTW. . Thanks so much!!!!

Ok. It finished. 1hr 16mins 12secs. Believe it was 40 files that I removed. Then restarted.
Now scanning with Commando.
My browsing hasn't returned to normal. Like the safemode (bigger keys) has gone away but this site and others are not displaying the backgrounds they normally would. I am using the "Twinkle" skin and it's showing a very generic blue and white background. I suppose when this is all over I go back to Tools---->Internet Options---->LAN and check those boxes and all will be back to normal?
