Clarify, " Shut down network while you were working on it" do you mean disabling the LAN settings in Tool options or simply using the Internet while it's supposed to be cleaning{like I'm doing now }? I haven't restarted at all yet, because it said not to{unless prompted---which I WASN'T} BTW. . Thanks so much!!!! You're welcome. Disconnect the internet cable at your computer. Just uplug it from the computer. Leave everything else alone - the router, your card, etc. Just unplug your computer from the internet connection.

What shouldn't I do while this malewarebytes is running? Like can I check yahoo messenger to see if I got any new messages? No, nothing. Do nothing while it is cleaning. If you do anything, it will have to start over again.

Ok. It finished. 1hr 16mins 12secs. Believe it was 40 files that I removed. Then restarted. Now scanning with Commando. My browsing hasn't returned to normal. Like the safemode (bigger keys) has gone away but this site and others are not displaying the backgrounds they normally would. I am using the "Twinkle" skin and it's showing a very generic blue and white background. I suppose when this is all over I go back to Tools---->Internet Options---->LAN and check those boxes and all will be back to normal? It likely wiped your internet history. Probably have to reset your browser, yes.

I was all ready to bring it to the shop and spend $70(probably more as that was the price a couple of years ago). We used to go to that guy a lot. Probably around five times. My computer upstairs has been infected and isn't working---meaning won't allow you to go online so will try this upstairs. More than likely I'll need to put the Malwarebytes, roadkill(and fake one) and Commando on my external or use a USB since the Internet isn't working for me to download it on that comp.

You are quite welcome. USB works best for offline for me. Just copy the files you need (Malwarebytes, etc.) to the USB drive and have at the machine. One day I cleaned 3 of my daughter's computers all offline because I wouldn't dare hook it up to my router while they were infected. Once you have a network aware virus, you have to clean each machine disconnected from the network to avoid re-infection of clean machines. As for settings in Comodo, no, just leave the defaults. You DID download the whole Internet Security set, right? Not JUST the antivirus? There's a firewall and antivirus - all free.

Ok will go back and get the firewall. I only got the antivirus. Yeah, get the whole thing because it's incredibly effective. It's not nearly as intrusive and annoying as Norton and most of the others. When you use a new program, it's going to ask you if it should run it inside a "Sandbox" but once you tell it the program is trusted, it won't ask again. I run a weekly scan on my computer with the Antivirus, it's set up automatically to run at midnight on Sundays. But, Comodo is always running in the background watching for those annoying web based trojans and viruses. I've even got my computers setup so that if Comodo is not running, the machines won't connect to the internet at all.

AVAST Lavasoft ad-aware Spybot Search and Destory ZoneAlarm CCleaner ^^^^These five things. I used to be a proponent of ZoneAlarm until it became an absolute memory hog. You don't need any of those things except when/if you get an infection. There is simply no way to use the internet and avoid things like cookies. If you turn off cookies, websites simply won't display the page. Ad-aware just cleans up cookies. Spybot, the same thing - it just cleans out unwanted cookies and trackers that you'll put right back on the computer the next time you go to Yahoo mail. They are a waste of system resources unless you need them to clean up your computer.

I went back and checked that LAN thing but still my browsing didn't return back to normal. Also, the icons on the bottom of my desktop look totally different. Heck, everything at startup. Looks like it did on my old comp. Attachments:

Alright I right clicked on my desktop and clicked "Personalize" then the Windows 7 background. The site colors are back to normal but the look of my computer still isn't...ie the icons are squared now (like old school computers. Reminds me of my Gateway days.

Looks like it did on my old comp. You'll probably need to change your display settings. Now, be forewarned.........I know NOTHING about Windows 7. Never touched it, never even saw it. In Windows Vista, it's Start>Control Panel>Personalization>Display Settings. I don't know what kind of video card you have, but you should go to the Advanced settings and set the video size you want, and set the Colors to at least 32bit, 64 if there is an option for it. The display settings will make the biggest difference. On Internet Explorer, I'm even more clueless. I don't use it at all. Haven't since IE5. So, I can't help you with anything there.

I'm running this stuff on the upstairs computer. I didn't need to be in safemode to do it. It ran in regular mode. For some reason you can't get online up there. OR you can for a short time. IT's saying we have some security issues. So right now, doing the Malware.

Update:
Ok so I've been running the Malewarebytes on my computer upstairs (the one that cannot go online). And surprisingly, it says no threats detected. Next, I tried to go to into Uninstall programs to remove my AVAST so I can download Comodo Anti-virus and FireWall. I removed a few other things but it will NOT allow me to remove Avast. it said, "setiface error" and gave a serial number. How can I remove it if not by "Uninstall Programs"? I have a feeling it's my Anti-virus...or it being corrupt that's not allowing me to go online since it's not an actual virus.

If it's open, even that may not be successful. OK, first, find the Avast icon on the desktop. Right click the icon and click on Properties You need to find the target application and write down the path. The complete path. Then in the search box of the Start Menu, type "cmd" with NO quotes. You'll see a black box popup on your screen. Once you have the Command Prompt type: cd\ (that's C D Slash) cd <now type in the entire path of the target application> (that's C D SPACE) Make sure your Command Prompt says SOMETHING about AVAST....c:\AVAST\...... We just want to make sure we are in the right directory on your computer because the next command is destructible AND unrecoverable if we screw it up.
OK, tell me when you get this far.

Ok...things went a little different.
There was no AVAST icon at the bottom of the tray. The only two icons were Avast On Access Scanner and Virus Recovery Database.
When I went to search for the AVAST program, and clicked on it so the icon would present itself, I got an error message.
Program cannot load iNews (C:\Program Files\Alwil\Software\Avast4\Data\iNews.htm
Now that I tried to open up Avast (albeit unsuccessfully), it shows up in my start menu. So I right clicked on it to get the properties. This is how it looks:
Target type: Application Target Location: Avast4 Target: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast 4\AshAvast.exe

We are going to manually delete all the files in the Avast directory. We must be CERTAIN you are IN the Avast directory. If it does, type the info below (not the part with the C:\....) just what I have in RED. C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast 4\> del *.* that's d e l space asterik period asterik Then press enter when you are certain we are in the right place because once you hit enter, every file in the directory you are in will be deleted FOREVER. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you don't want to do the above, here's an Avast removal utility which will do the same thing. www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
